Types of Tequila - There are two types of tequila, mixto and 100% blue agave. The difference between the two types is that one is 100% and the other is not. By law, mixto tequila must be at least 51% blue agave. Typically the remaining 49% comes from other sugars.
Mixto/Joven - Unlike the rest of the tequila styles listed here, mixto or joven tequilas are not 100% blue agave products. While mixto and joven tequila can be aged and have names just as 100% products, for purposes of this site I have chosen to separate them.
Blanco - The true taste of the agave comes from blanco tequilas. While blanco's are typically unaged, legally they can be aged for up to 59 days. This category has many names including blanco, silver, plata, platino, etc.
Reposado - Reposado or Rested tequila is aged from 2 months up to right below 1 year. These tequilas are typically referred to as the smoothest of the tequila styles.
Anejo - Tequila labeled "anejo" has been aged from 1-3 years.
Extra Anejo - Tequila that has the "extra anejo" designation is a new designation and has been aged for more than three years.
