Azcona Azul Silver – NOM 1541 – Tasted on 1/2/09 at 8:00pm.
I opened this bottle, which was given to the Davis Graduate Tequila Bar, and
tasted it in a snifter. With a clear color, this tequila has intense aromas of fruit
with moderate-to-intense floral notes. Additional aromas include hints of earth
and spice. The tequila has a thin-to-medium mouth feel and on the first sip has
a hint of sweetness with mild-to-moderate bitterness. Intense flavors of agave
are followed by moderate notes of floral and minerals. With a medium-to-long
duration of flavor, mild notes of earth and fruit bring this tequila to a subtle
finish. Azcona Azul Silver has received the rating of 86 points out of 100.
Azcona Azul Aged – NOM 1541 – Tasted on 2/6/09 at 8:20pm.
I opened this bottle, which was given to the Davis Graduate Tequila Bar, and
tasted it in a snifter. With a pale yellow color, this tequila has intense aromas
of floral and fruit. Other aromas include moderate vanilla with mild earth and
spice. The tequila has a medium mouth feel and on the first sip is sweet with
no bitterness. Intense flavors of fruit are followed by moderate-to-intense
notes of agave, floral, and spice. With a medium-to-long duration of flavor,
mild notes of earth and wood bring this tequila to a tingly numbing finish.
Azcona Azul Aged (Reposado) has received the rating of 90 points out of 100.
Azcona Azul Extra Aged– NOM 1541- Tasted 3/11/09 at 9:40pm
I opened this bottle, which was given to the Davis Graduate Tequila Bar, and
tasted it in a snifter. With a yellow golden color, this tequila has intense
aromas of caramel and fruit. Other aromas include moderate vanilla and floral
with mild earth, smoke, and spice. The tequila has a thin mouth feel and on the
first sip is sweet with no bitterness. Intense flavors of fruit and caramel are
followed by moderate notes of floral and agave. With a medium-to-long
duration of flavor, mild notes of earth, vanilla, spice, and wood bring this tequila
to a subtle numbing finish. Azcona Azul Extra Aged (Añejo) has received the
rating of 89/90 points out of 100.
Riazul Añejo – NOM 1460 – Tasted on 3/22/09 at 8:00pm.
I tried this tequila at a friend’s house and tasted it out of a spirits glass. The
tequila is a golden amber color with obvious French oak aromas. The aromas of
this Anejo consist of intense fruit and cinnamon followed by moderate floral and
caramel notes. On the lighter side, this Añejo has hints of earth and spice.
Upon entry, this tequila is mellow and has a medium mouth feel. While the
tequila has mild agave flavor, it is sweet and almost syrupy with no bitterness.
The flavor of this tequila contains intense cinnamon aspects with moderate
notes of floral and French oak. Deeper flavors of Riazul Añejo consist of mild
agave, fruit, caramel, and smoky flavors followed by hints of earth. Upon
finishing this tequila, there is a medium-to-long duration of flavor and numbing
alcohol intensity. I have rated this tequila at 89 out of 100 points.
